”I always enjoy meeting my patrons, for a wide variety of reasons. The statement that the majority make after purchasing a painting is “ I never thought I would buy a painting of a cow, rooster, pig…..whatever. But, for some reason, I feel a connection to what you have painted.” That statement is the reason why I paint. When hearing this I love to share with them…… “It is not so much what the subject is on the canvas, it is whether or not the artist has put a part of their soul in it.” As artists, no matter what medium, we are given a unique gift to allow people to be in touch with who they are….their inner child, so-to-speak. It is the same for the song-writer, musician, performer, and also nature……we connect as humans when someone pours their heart and soul into what they do….watching a musician sing what they believe in on stage, experiencing a sunset over the mesa in New Mexico with its radiant colors, seeing an exquisitely performed ballet, watching a sappy movie, smelling a newly blossomed rose, or listening to someone laugh. I have studied with a variety of very talented painters, and consider myself very fortunate and humbled to have learned from them that it is important to allow my style, who I am, to be placed on the canvas. I used to struggle with my style, thinking that it needed to be something that it wasn’t, but, during this wonderful art % spiritual soul searching journey, I have discovered that it is best not to fight and fear, but to allow…..and to just be……quite simply……who I am. I am, basically, a farm girl from Kansas, who, feels compelled to share her soul with the world. My father always told me to “Look at the donut, and not at the hole.” And now, finally, I understand what, in his infinite wisdom, his gift to me was and is. Life is for living, not just live to exist. It is for celebrating, enjoying, laughing and learning. Think of the possibilities, the opportunities and the victories that are achieved by taking a risk. Enjoy what you do, and share it with enthusiasm. Live your life with passion - and you will never feel like you have to “work”.
" When you know that it is enough to "be" exactly who you are without recognition, without approval, in spite of what others "say or think" about you, then you have truly "become."
